00:00.00 archpodnet Welcome to the show. Everyone joining me today is Heather in California and Andrew in California nice all right? Well I'm over here in North Carolina the complete opposite side of the country and. 00:04.31 Heather Hi everyone. 00:10.00 Andrew Kinkella What's that party people. How's it going hey. 00:18.22 archpodnet Doug can't make it today and bills may come in if he figures out how to get online in his airbnb that he's currently at but who knows we may see him a little bit later all right? Well I wanted to start the show and maybe we'll just have a little bit of chat about this for the first segment but I wanted to start the show. 00:20.48 Andrew Kinkella Doug is. 00:35.31 archpodnet Um, with kind of a plug but then also a discussion about health insurance for my friend Richie Cruise and Richie and you know have no problem saying his name. He's a friend of the show friend of the network we've we've done shows together. We did the happy archeology and he's got the happy archeology fun time persona on Youtube and and a website and then we call it. We do a. 00:48.20 Heather Let's have a um. 00:55.13 archpodnet Live stream called you call this archeology on Facebook although we had to stop that a few months ago because he was diagnosed with um cancer. So and he's I don't know how old she is 32 33 something like that. He's pretty young. He's in his early 30 s and. 01:06.34 Andrew Kinkella Man. 01:10.63 archpodnet He's dealing with it right? He had a bunch of surgeries. His life has forever changed regardless of how this comes out his life has forever changed because of the surgeries that he had and now he's waiting on some treatments for the I think it's for the injections or something like that he went through 1 thing now he's going through another thing and and that's supposed to be the one that. You know, kind of kicks this hopefully but the point is he put up a go fund me. Um, he does have health insurance right now he happened to get full time with a company. Not long before all this happens happened which was very fortuitous and there you know I don't know how much it's covering but the insurance is covering a lot of it because this is really expensive. But. He's also not able to work that much right? They're not covering his living expenses. It's covering his health his medical expenses but he still needs to live. He still needs to eat. He still needs to you know he's has to buy extra clothing because he's lost a ton of weight and can't stay warm right? They can't keep enough blood in his body with all these things and. And he just can't stay warm. He's he's like cold all the time even when it's like ° out and he lives in Reno. So. It's definitely not that right now and it's getting colder. So I'm just saying he put up this go fund me the link is in the show notes I've posted it before on my my page on Facebook and also on. The arche field text page on our group on pay on Facebook he's at 13398 as of this recording of $15000 and $15000 is a pretty modest goal for living expenses I got to say because like I said he's still trying to put in as many hours as he can because you know what. 02:29.70 Andrew Kinkella Ah. 02:41.40 archpodnet This field is garbage for taking care of our own when something goes bad. It's just simply garbage I mean sure you might get your some of your medical expenses paid for but like I said if you just can't physically work because you're fatigued and tired and and just just worn out from you know, trying to fight for your life. But you're also like. God damnmit I need to write 1 more site record or do whatever it's just shitty shitty we have to live through that. So if you've got an extra $6 go over there and and donate to Ritchie even if you don't know him you don't have to know him to be able to support one of our own because you know what you could get cancer tomorrow. So. 02:59.40 Andrew Kinkella You. 03:15.91 archpodnet Ah, that's where we're at heather. 03:18.55 Heather Yeah I'm I'm sorry for Richie um, definitely support. You know it. It doesn't take much like you said you don't want to be given a hundred dollars you can give anything right? Um I you know. 03:20.22 archpodnet Yeah. 03:26.72 archpodnet Yeah, me. 03:34.74 Heather I have somebody on our staff that whose husband is going through the same thing and so it's not just archeology I mean the the thing is is that when you get cancer. It's all consuming and you really need to focus on getting yourself well and so working is difficult even if it's not a physical job. 03:48.91 archpodnet Yeah, yeah. 03:54.67 Heather Um, here. Her husband's is not a physical Job. So It's just you know it really does a number on your memory. It does number on your energy level your ability to focus and so I don't think that this is just an archeology thing. This is a you know it's widespread I Mean. You have ah you know you have to take some time off and then you get the edd right? So That's like 70% of your income that can. 04:25.70 archpodnet Um. 04:56.86 archpodnet Yeah. 05:14.73 archpodnet Sure. 05:23.55 archpodnet Yeah, well unfortunately this is the third person I've seen battling cancer 2 of which didn't make it both all 3 in their early 30 s and it was different cancers in the other cases because there's you never know what kind of cancer is going to do what but it was um. Yeah, it's terrible. 1 was my sister in law and I was actually there when she when she passed and it was just you know it's a terrible terrible thing. Um, but that goes back to you know to keep it on topic here a discussion about this field and and all those things and we're going to bring up some other stuff later that you know comes back to self-confidence and you know people's. Ability to kind of kind of own their situations and and and just I don't know just ah, just be good people I guess and I don't know and just try to get work done and and and have a job and it's so weird that you can't really do that in this field. Um, there's always these other considerations. But. Pause for just a second andrew this thing keeps throwing up errors for me. Can you still hear us. Okay, it keeps saying you're having a problem with like I don't know some media recorder thing but it looks fine and we don't touch anything. 06:40.75 archpodnet Um I see her. 06:50.80 archpodnet Um. 06:54.83 archpodnet Yeah, okay, well if your Mike cuts out. It'll probably end your end the stop the recording. That's usually what it does so that's a good thing. Um, but I see I mean you see your waveform. Ah presumably, you're recording so I don't really know I guess we'll find out at the end of the segment. So. Yeah, right? Okay, all right taking it back up. So if you are working for a you know a decent size company that is providing health insurance. First off take a close look at that health insurance because there's definitely levels. Right? And even within the same company. You might have different levels of health insurance. You may have had a choice and not really know what you were doing when you first saw it because how many times if you had to pick health insurance in your life. Probably not that many as a field tech and archeology. So just take a look at it. You don't make sure see what it covers and then don't forget too. There's always um. She and I don't know if Ritchie's done this or not but like credit cards weirdly enough and other things they often have like this this kind of insurance that's part of the terms and conditions of the credit card that says hey you know if you've got you know loss of limb and all these other weird things that they've got they'll just pay you. Right? to to not not only is kind of an insurance but also ah to help pay your credit card bills and and things like that. It's a weird thing and and I've seen it before on these and I know a good friend from high school actually lost his arm in an accident and he said that was one of the things that kept him through it is he had like 6 credit cards and they all keep him money without any strings attached. So. 08:27.53 archpodnet Yeah I know you got to look at the fine print on everything that you have and just see if there's any any extra cash out there that you can get. But anyway I don't know. 08:41.58 archpodnet Oh yeah. 08:54.92 archpodnet Um, yes, ah. 09:08.91 archpodnet Um. 09:14.70 archpodnet Yeah. 09:27.66 archpodnet Yeah. 09:34.92 archpodnet Yep. 09:53.26 archpodnet Um. 10:27.69 archpodnet M. 10:43.76 archpodnet Yeah. 10:50.65 archpodnet Sure. 11:16.23 archpodnet Um. 11:20.12 archpodnet Yeah, yeah. 11:30.75 archpodnet Yeah, yeah. 11:51.70 archpodnet And. 12:36.61 archpodnet Um. 12:41.30 archpodnet Sure. Yeah. 13:43.29 archpodnet Mm. 13:49.17 archpodnet Yeah. 14:03.40 archpodnet Um, yeah, there's ah, go ahead. 14:25.48 archpodnet Yeah. 15:02.93 archpodnet Um, yeah. 15:15.67 archpodnet Yeah, okay, we are going to get to that for sure. But for now let's take a break come back on the other side and continue this discussion back in a minute.
