00:00.35 kinkella Welcome back to the pseudo archeology podcast episode 120 I'm your host Andrew Kingkela and we have been talking about the rosakru egyptian museum in San Jose California and my reaction to it having visited there as an eleven year old and 1983 so on that last segment we talked a bit about what is rosicrucianism and I would say thinking back to those 5 minutes ago when I did that you know it's not that great. It's still it bumps around because it's really hard to explain. Because it's so sort of broad. It's just this group of people you can think of it too as like the freemasons you know it's it's like you pull in some from the freemasons you pull in little so ah scientology and you can kind of get a feeling for it this this group that sort of works on esoteric. Mysticism in a vaguely secretive manner but it seems to me whenever they unveil any of their secrets. They're really really a bit of a bummer like ah alchemy how man you know what? I'm saying. Um, but what's the deal with the rosicrucian museum today now they do build themselves as having the largest exhibit of egyptian artifacts in Western North America that's pretty good I'm sure what that means is they have the most amount of egyptian art artifacts barring. 01:32.42 kinkella 1 or 2 of the museums on the East Coast you know what? I mean someplace in New York or something like that. Um, and the reason this the reason it's there at all. We didn't talk before about the cheapness of the land. But there was this guy named H Spencer Lewis that in believe in the 19 teens he he got the rosicrusian order together right? and then in 1927 I believe he started the rosicrucian museum and it really started with a single one of his own artifacts because at the time they would just buy sort of artifacts from egypt and then and then bring them back right. Because they felt like they had this spiritual tie to ancient egyptian artifacts which of course they don't they can feel like they do, but they don't so he started the museum like that and then the museum grew. As the years went by I'm sure it was helped a ton by the egypto mania of like the 1920 s right because King Tut is going to be found in 1922 and that's going to be a worldwide phenomenon. So this idea that you have an egyptian museum. Like people gonna be into that. Oh yeah, let's check it out. Oh yeah I heard about king tut let's see some some more of that right? and so I checked out the ah website of the museum today and I was really looking for photos and stuff to try and make me remember my own experience my own. 02:59.78 kinkella Dark and depressing experience and I only remember bits and pieces I have to say based on my crappy experience I only really remember the outside going like yeah, this place is really pretty and I remember walking into this sort of the fake tomb that they have and I don't mind it. Course it has to be fake. There's nothing wrong with that. But I just I thought that was cool. Maybe and again, maybe some of the mummies. But I don't what I mainly remember is really the scowls of all the people working there I remember that way more than any 1 artifact anyway, as the time goes by. They do improve their museum over time now when I last visited in the 80 s I also felt like god it was so long ago can always be wrong on this but like the lighting and the overall presentation of some of the artifacts was pretty damn cheesy like they were going for the. Yes, this is ancient Egyptian but check out its rosicrucian connection you know which is just really in poor taste but they would do that and even in my 11 year old brain I was like this is lame. This is weird but based on what I see on their website I think. Ah, cleaned up their act think it's pretty cool in terms of like do I think that sixth graders should still go to the Rosa Cruson museum yes totally and I bet that they would have a much better tour than I did you know in in the eighty s because I think they've made it more broad. 04:33.95 kinkella Made it more based on Egypt itself and I will say on their website. They have a kickass website. Actually they have that like this interactive map. They have the time periods listed that you can click on and they have a really good. List of like the various Egyptian gods and you can kind of click on them and it talks about what they do so in terms of like an encapsulated basic history of Egypt like if you're curious. You know you're like hey man I want to know more about the middle kingdom. It's a really great resource like I teach in egyptology class and looking at it I was like you know I might add this link to the egyptology class just for some of the yeah basic stuff for them to cruise around now we talk about of course much more than that. But sometimes it's great to have. A website like that where you it just has it and it's very digestible and easy to deal with and if you just have like a quick question. Ah pre-dynastic. What's up with that and you can just kind of click on it and get kind of your you know your basic facts out of the way. So hey man give credit where they. Where it's deserved. Um rosicruian egyptian museum your web website's pretty damn good. My friends good for you so they have gotten better with that. Although there still are areas they have that off limits thing. 06:00.74 kinkella And they have signs where it's like no admittance and it basically says you know, no admittance this is our secret cave. You don't get to come in here. It's just it still has that feeling of like you're not 1 of us. You know there's a. Part of that and I got to say you know religions that do that you're not, you're not going to get the biggest number of people ever. You know it's it's off putting man. Um, maybe just don't even put that sign there and just make it so people can't go in. You know if it's the secret door just label it like janitor closet. You know nobody you'll know I will say at the same time even though they still have their. Foolish secrecy they are always open for like members. You know I think you can pay them a certain amount of money per month and then you can become a rosicrucian and you can take their classes and all that and when you see interviews by rosicrucians they always seem pretty chill and pretty open. You know they. That's good. But yeah, overall you know, um I leave with 2 things First yeah, didn't fool an 11 year old and second. 07:34.19 kinkella Don't be jerks to eleven year olds because they grow up and make podcasts and with that I'll see you guys next time.
