Chris Webster served in the US Navy right out of high school and worked as an aviation electronics technician. In the Navy he did a cruise on the USS Enterprise to the Mediterranean Sea and was able to visit many historical sites. These included Rome and all it’s wonders, Pompeii, sites in France, Spain, Israel, and the Middle East.

After a several year stint in airline pilot technical school in Oklahoma (Chris always wanted to be either an archaeologist or an airline pilot) where he received is private pilot certificate and completed training for instrument and commercial certificates, Chris decided to transition to a full university and moved to the University of North Dakota.

It was here that he filled his electives with archaeology classes while continuing his flying education. At some point Chris transitioned his major to anthropology and never looked back.

Chris Webster

After school he went to Africa on an Earthwatch expedition to Olduvai Gorge. He was always fascinated with the Leakey family and early human evolution.

On his return, a friend mentioned the website “Shovelbums” and shortly after that Chris had his first job in CRM Archaeology. His second job was where he met his future wife and podcast co-host, Rachel Roden!

Chris worked in CRM Archaeology, traveling the country with Rachel, for many years. He took time out to get a Master’s Degree in Archaeological Resource Management from the University of Georgia. In 2011 Chris started the company “Digital Technologies in Archaeological Consulting” to focus on the growing technical aspects of archaeology.

Shortly after that, in 2012, Chris started his first podcast - a short-lived news podcast. This eventually evolved into the CRM Archaeology Podcast with a full panel of returning co-host that is still going today.

In the summer of 2014 Chris was wanting to do more podcasts and figured starting a network was the best way to do that. Why not give others a place to speak their ideas as well without having to worry about the technical aspects? He reached out online to see if anyone else was crazy enough to start this up with him and that’s when Tristan Boyle answered the call.

The APN was started with the CRM Archaeology Podcast, Tristan’s Anarchaeology Podcast, the Pseudo-Archaeology Podcast (Then called Archy Fantasies with Sara Head), and the ArchaeoTech Podcast with Chris and Russell Alleen-Willems as the hosts. It wasn’t much, but, it blossomed into the network we have today.

Now, focusing less on fieldwork and more on education and outreach, Chris travels the country in his RV with Rachel and they visit archaeological sites, historical sites, and national parks in whatever country they are in.
